this weekend, come hear folk-roots music from brett nelson, ty cooke, & friends… brett nelson hails southeastern alberta near the cypress hills. he stops here on salt spring as part of his western canada tour. brett is an inspiration for every young canadian beat poet. brett played as a cultural representative for alberta in the olympics, sharing the underground soul of his prairie home in original acoustic tunes. a native of sooke, bc, ty cooke derives his inspiration as a poet from the giant northern spaces, and the people who drift through them. he is also moved by the overpowering rhythms of the south. recently returned from the amazon, he’s woven stories & revelations from this journey and others into his wordplay poems. “there’s a beauty that I see which I can express through words”, says ty. “all my lyrics are about nature, and our relationships within nature… we humans are a working metaphor for nature. that’s the essence of my work.” “words come out of their own space, music is always around between the two,” says brett. “sometimes you get lucky!” the hirsuite pair agree that songs grow on hair.
opening for the duo, sean terrell will be promoting an upcoming otesha tour. otesha are a group of young environmental activists who spread bicycle powered eco-awareness.
